Leadership Transition Intensive

Your focus is on excelling in your new leadership role and making the impact you got into higher ed to make…but how can you be sure you are ready to meet the challenges of your transition?

During the first year in any new leadership role, life moves quickly.

There are numerous faculty, staff, students, and employees to meet, community leaders and donors to contact, a team to build and engage, and unexpected developments or crises to resolve. You need to quickly develop a deep understanding of the campus culture and decision-making processes including learning the budget, understanding the strategic plan, and setting new aspirations for success and equity.

Everything feels like the highest priority except the availability of time.

There’s this unspoken rule in higher ed that every new leader has just 90 days to secure early wins, become familiar with the new divisional or institutional context, and build supportive coalitions.

In other words: by the 3-month mark, key people in the institution–your boss, peers, and direct reports–expect you to be getting real traction. No matter the type, or circumstances, of your transition into your new role.

During the Leadership Transition Intensive, we will work together over the course of 5 hours to build a 90-day plan that will accelerate the speed and impact of your transition so you can fully embrace and succeed in your new leadership role. I will help you identify your key priorities, prepare for the critical conversations to come, and create the systems you need to have in place to ensure that you can make the most of your fall semester as a leader.

We will work together to outline and plan your Transition Success 90-Day Action Plan.

I will help you:

  • Reflect on how you want to show up as a leader and create key messages that you want to communicate

  • Map your strengths to your new position and identify strategies to leverage your strengths and manage your weaknesses

  • Identify key priorities and milestones and secure early eins

  • Develop your learning agenda and capacity plan

  • Align expectations with your boss and direct reports

  • Create systems to help you get organized, stay focused on your priorities, and get the feedback you need early on

  • Prepare for key conversations with your boss, peers, and direct reports

  • Build your team and create alliances

  • Manage your time and energy and ensure that you are able to build in time for renewal and self-care

Certified Executive Coach, Center for Executive Coaching Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach

I am an executive coach that helps higher education leaders cultivate the mindset and skill set needed to thrive in an ever-changing world so they can lead with greater purpose and ease.

Informed by 15+ years of progressive experience as a higher education leader, I work with chairs and deans to vice presidents and provosts as they navigate change in higher education and the next step in their careers.

I have worked with numerous clients in education and business including New York University, University of Chicago, University of Tennessee, Furman University, Case Western Reserve University, Colby College, Commonwealth University, Microsoft, and GE Aviation.

I would love to work together with you.

Jennifer’s ability to tune into the leadership challenges I was experiencing and create a customized plan to support my growth was both career and life-saving. The resources she provided helped me to better manage my schedule, prioritize tasks, and support my team. Jennifer is a confidant, a guide, and a true leader in her field. She has encouraged me to “live my questions” and trust that I will find the answers as I progress. In the past six months, I have grown tremendously, feel more confident, and settled into the process of learning how to execute strategic plans and how to let go of things that can wait.  If you are struggling to figure out how to be your best self, personally and professionally, take the risk to invest in yourself and decide to work with Jennifer. I promise you won’t regret it.

Amy Downes, Associate Vice President of Student Success & Campus Life, Commonwealth University of PA

Jennifer had a tremendous amount of empathy and good energy. She was my cheerleader, confidant, and coach during an incredibly difficult time. She helped me think more strategically about how I could approach my work, including offering me several tools for deeper reflection as well as reading and skills building around navigating a challenging internal political system, prioritizing and delegating, and leading with a stronger strategic mindset.

Jennifer helped me find tools that worked for me. Her approach is very catered to her client’s strengths and values.
